Description
Prayer flags, also called wind horse, is a common religious building in Tibet. The portrait of Sakyamuni Buddha or Padma Sambhava is put on the top of a flagpole made of rocks and set up in the center, and colorful cloth printed with sutras is strung on or around the pole with string of ox hair. Different color represent different meanings: green-grassland; white-white clouds; yellow-the moon; blue-the sky; and red-the sun. Tibetans use pray flags for praying, and when flags flutter with the wind, it has the same effect as reading mantras. Tibetans pray for peace and good luck and show great respect for the nature in this special way. These flags are also seen around Qinghai Lake.
